Lawn Damaging Insect Control

Some of the most common types of lawn damaging insects:

Grubs: These are the larval stage of various beetles, such as Japanese beetles or June beetles, and they feed on the roots of turfgrass, causing the grass to wilt, turn brown, or die.
Chinch bugs: These small insects feed on the sap of grass plants and can cause the grass to turn yellow, wilt, or die.
Sod webworms: The larvae of these moths feed on grass blades, causing irregular brown patches and thinning of the turf.
Billbugs: These weevils feed on the stems of grass plants and can cause stunted growth, discoloration, and dieback.
Armyworms: The larvae of these moths also feed on grass blades and can quickly cause significant damage, especially during periods of warm, moist weather.

Damage Caused To Turfgrass From Lawn Insects

Lawn insects can cause a variety of damage to turfgrass, depending on the species and severity of the infestation. In general, lawn insects can cause yellowing or browning of the grass, thinning or patchy growth, and even complete death of the turf in severe cases. In addition to the direct damage caused by lawn insects, infestations can also make the turfgrass more susceptible to other stresses, such as drought or disease. As a result, it is important to monitor your lawn regularly for signs of insect damage and take steps to control infestations as soon as possible. Control measures for lawn insects may include cultural practices, such as proper mowing and fertilization, as well as the use of insecticides or biological control methods, such as nematodes or beneficial insects. It is important to identify the specific insect causing the damage in order to choose the most effective control strategy.
