The ROOT Of The problem With Your Lawn Growth!

Tree root in lawn

Tree roots could hurt the growth of your grass, sometimes their roots can surface and it’s very noticeable. The most common roots on trees are surface roots which are usually grown from maple trees, locusts, birch trees and weeping willows, but no matter the tree type though, the roots can cause problems and damage for your lawn.

Surface roots not only can cause damage to your grass growth but also lawn mower blades depending on how high they come out of the ground. The roots are so strong they can even damage sideways and driveways if a tree is planted close to them. If the roots reach these areas and cause damage, you may have to cut down the tree since it will only get worse. But don’t worry! There are ways to fix the surface root issues like creating a landscape bed and adding mulch over the roots can protect the tree! This will also keep your lawn from being damaged. There may be some new roots ready to appear so it’s alright to put down some light soil and seeds so the roots still have access to water and nutrients for the tree. It can also help with grass growth and add more grass to your lawn.

It is best to contact your local lawn or tree specialist as well to get some advice on the tree roots and the best course of action whether it be putting down soil and seed or cutting down the tree all together and having the stump and roots removed. Every tree is different just like every lawn is different, if all else fails ask for help and see what a specialist can recommend.

There are pet friendly fertilizers, however, they still can be harmful to pets due to the ingredients. So just be mindful of what fertilizer you use and if it’s pet friendly. If you any questions about your pets and lawn care please contact us at 732-475-5500
